Desperate to save Grandpa, the twins took off for the Imperial City. Anxiety and worry enshrouded them, but they were determined to save him. Minutes felt like hours as the Imperial City was nowhere in sight. The memory of their innocent grandfather was still etched into their mind.
Mei bellowed, “How could they! He’s innocent!” Just then, Mei felt a tap on her shoulder. They couldn’t believe their eyes. Was it the Jade Rabbit? An aura of compassion and kindness emanated from the rabbit. Mei and Yun looked closer. It was real. It has smooth jade-like fur.
Suddenly, the rabbit started mumbling. “Um… are you lost…?”
Frantically, the twins blurted out their awful predicament. The Jade Rabbit nodded in sympathy and decided to help them.
“Follow me! I know a shortcut!” the rabbit yelled as the twins sprinted to the city, now with a new companion.
Soon, they arrived. Grandpa was on a chair, being interrogated by the emperor. The trio zoomed in and protested, “He’s innocent!”
“I have proof!” Mei gave the emperor a mooncake from her pocket. “Look! It’s definitely not poisoned!”
The emperor took two small nibbles and was safe. “I’ll let you off this time. No funny acts to my son next time, you understand?”
All they cared about was their grandfather, whom they finally got back. When they whipped around, the Jade Rabbit was gone. They looked at the full moon and grinned. They couldn’t have done it without the Jade Rabbit.
