Comforting a friend

From: Sasikumar Prajesh, Pri 6, Sembawang Primary School

Dear Swara,
I hope you are well. Recently, I heard your grandmother passed away.

A family member’s death is such a hard blow, especially the death of someone whom you were close to. I can only imagine the immense pain and grief you felt over the news of Pitter Paati passing away. You cannot forget someone’s death. That is why I understand you.

My grandmother passed away too. She contracted diabetes and the doctor informed us that she had only a few days to live. With a lump in my throat, I pretended the elephant in the room did not exist. Eventually, the day came, and she passed away.

Your grandmother was like a second mother to me, making delicious cookies whenever I came over. Your grandmother passing away all of a sudden is also hard for me. Do remember that your grandmother’s love will always be with you. Despite her absence, the memories you shared with her will remain in your heart forever. Do not forget those memories. I assure you that she will always be looking over you.

You are not alone in this period of hardship, Swara. I am here if you need a strong shoulder to lean on. Together, we will get through this pandemic. Even better, I will treat you to Obama Fried Chicken this Saturday!

With heartfelt condolences,
Prajesh
