Soon, the sky was darkening, but the school and the whole town was still bustling with police officers. Guilt threatened to engulf her. It is all my fault, she thought. Both remorseful and determined, Aurora refused to give up hope and kept on searching.
A police officer strode up to her and said, ” Sorry, little girl, but you will have to go home now. It is getting too dark.” Grudgingly, Aurora picked up her school bag and left for home. As she was walking home, she sighted Frenchie’s home in the distance. Wanting to apologise to Frenchie’s mother, she started walking there, her head bowed in remorse. Just then, she heard footsteps pattering behind her. With her whole body trembling, she turned around.
To her astonishment, there stood Frenchie. Aurora sagged with relief upon seeing him. His eyes were red from crying and his fists were clenched. He must have wandered back home himself after being lost, Aurora thought. She dashed towards him and gushed, “I was looking for you! I am so sorry about just now!” Frenchie’s face brightened immediately, and his fists relaxed. With Frenchie following beside her, Aurora walked to his home with him.
