Find Frenchie

From: Amber, Pri 6, Methodist Girls’ School

After searching the whole school, a policeman asked if he could talk to me. “You are Aurora, right? I am Frenchie’s dad and I heard from the teachers that you were last seen with him. I’m going to ask you some questions, ok?”

I could tell that he was worried about Frenchie because I was too. At that point, I thought that I was the worst friend ever.

“Where did you last see him?” Frenchie’s dad asked, to which I replied, ” At the school gates, I was walking with two of my friends and Frenchie was …. THE WOODS!”

Frenchie’s dad  looked puzzled and confused as to what I was saying. I wound be too but there was no time for that. No time for questions. No time for anything.

I ran past him without looking back. “MY GUYS HAD ALREADY CHECKED THE WOODS! HE IS NOT IN THERE!”, Frenchie’s dad shouted. I pushed everything away and I was certain that Frenchie was in the tree.

“NO TIME TO EXPLAIN!”, I shouted, leaving him behind. I stopped at the breath-taking view of the green field, catching my breath. Beside me was a big tree with a small hole in the middle big enough for two people to sit in. I heard leaves shuffling and when I looked inside the tree, IT WAS FRENCHIE!

I walked towards him, my toes barely touching the ground. I whispered  “FRENCHIE? Is that you?” I sat beside him in the tree and saw him playing with a single leaf while trying to make space for me. We both sat there and looked at the view until the policeman came and escorted us back to the school.
