Last week, while walking home after tuition, I noticed an elderly woman struggling to push a heavy trolley across the road in the pouring rain. The wheels kept getting stuck, and she hesitated, unsure of how to move forward. Many people rushed past, shielding themselves from the rain, but I couldn’t ignore her struggle.
Summoning courage, I stepped forward and gently asked if she needed help. She smiled gratefully and nodded. Together, we pushed the trolley, carefully navigating the puddles and slippery ground. The rain soaked my clothes, but I didn’t mind. When we finally reached the other side, she thanked me with warmth in her eyes.
In that moment, I realised that small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Just like Silver in Turtle Moon, who found the courage to help the turtles despite her fears, I had overcome my hesitation to assist someone in need. Helping others, no matter how small the gesture, brings a sense of fulfilment and reminds us of the power of compassion.
