Something was floating in the water. It looked like a piece of seaweed or rubbish. When I first saw it, I did not think much of it and continued to fish. But as I got closer, I realised that it was a turtle. It looked like it was in distress, struggling to move. It looked like it was stuck in a fishing net, unable to swim freely. I wanted to help, but was afraid it would bite me or I would hurt the turtle when I picked it up.
I gingerly reached out, gently picked up the turtle and was really careful not to drop it. I took out a pen knife and started cutting the fishing net, careful not to cut myself or the turtle, while ensuring not to let the kayak drift away into the open sea. It was difficult because the turtle was slippery and kept moving.
My sister’s kayak bumped into mine and I almost dropped the pen knife. Luckily, I caught the pen knife in time before it hit the turtle’s shell. After cutting the net off, I checked the turtle for any injuries. I released the turtle back into the sea and continued fishing.
