I enjoy spending time with my paternal grandmother who is in her 70s. Both of us share an interest in watching television. We especially love dramas, be it local, Taiwanese, or Korean. We have different skills. Grandmother is illiterate, but I can read and write. Grandmother possesses skills that I am not equipped with, such as sewing and cooking. Hence, I always read to her or act as her interpreter. Grandmother teaches me how to sew and cook. This is how we spend quality time together.
Although Grandmother is not educated, she seems to have an elixir of wisdom in her throat — she knows what to say to make me feel better and think smarter. “You will reap what you sow”, she will say in her dialect. She just wants me to study hard and work hard so that success will be with me. I feel fortunate to have a grandmother who can offer unconditional love to me.
