Helping Ruby Through A Tough Time

From: Shuqi, Pri 5, Maris Stella Primary

If I were Ruby’s classmate, I would be a kind and caring friend to her. During recess, I would sit with her and invite her to play and talk with me to prevent her from feeling lonely. I would check on how she is feeling every once in a while. On days when she feels disconsolate, I would lend a listening ear and remind her that it is normal to miss her grandpa.

In class, I would help her with schoolwork if she feels overwhelmed. If she finds it difficult to focus, I would remind her that learning takes time and that she can take breaks once in a while. If she ever tries to sneak out of school, I would gently remind her that running away wouldn’t help solve her problems. Lastly, I would encourage her to talk to a trusted teacher or counsellor about her struggles.

Most of all, I would remind Ruby that she is not alone. I would continue to support her and be there whenever she needs a friend.
