If I Were Jake

From: Rui Xin, Primary 6, Tao Nan School

If I were Jake and I wanted to solve the riddle, what would I do? Well, I have thought of a few plausible courses of action.

  1. Try to learn Spanish. This is a rather time-consuming method, but if Jake is that smart, he could pick it up easily, and he will learn a new language that might come in handy over the years.
  2. Use Google Translate. This is the simplest method ever, and as all teenagers have handphones nowadays, he can just scan a copy and let Google Translate translate it to English for him! But, there might be hackers in the Google Translate app and they might keep a copy for themselves.
  3. Find someone who is willing to translate it for them and swear that person to secrecy. Although this might be slightly harder, who knows? They might even find a new person to help them on their journey! However, no one can “unsee” or “unhear” anything. If someone vicious enough captures the person and maybe tortures him or her, the secret might come out.

In conclusion, every method has its pros and cons, it depends on how the writer wants the story to turn out, and what turning points and problems the writer wants the characters to face and overcome. But, if I were Jake, I would use Method Number 2, as it allows the characters to continue on their journey faster and moves the story forwards.
