LEARNING TO BE RESPONSIBLE

From: Alyssa, Pri 5, Tao Nan School

When my teacher announced I would be the emcee for the Chinese storytelling competition, my heart skipped a beat. It was an honour, but also a big responsibility. This wasn’t just any event — it was a chance for students to showcase creativity, confidence, and love for the language. And I was entrusted to guide the audience through it.

At first, I felt nervous. What if I mispronounced a name or forgot my lines? But being chosen meant my teacher believed in me. I prepared carefully: writing the script, rehearsing my opening and closing, and practicing smooth transitions. Friends helped me check that my tone sounded warm and welcoming.

On the day, I stood at the microphone, smiled, and began. The words flowed, the audience applauded, and I introduced each contestant with clarity and encouragement. When one participant hesitated, I lightened the mood with a gentle comment.

By the end, I realised emceeing wasn’t just about speaking — it was about respect, support, and celebration. Careful preparation and calm confidence helped me do it right.
