Dear Mayor,
I wanted to write to you because of the new policy. I think that it is very unfair as some of the residents, like my mother, have fallen on hard times and will need more than three months to be able to take care of their family and be ready to live on their own.
At Huey House, there are friendly staff that help my mother cope. What would happen if we were kicked out too early? Would my mother be able to find a job again? I myself had doubted Huey House, thinking that everything there would be rules, rules, and rules. However, I have started making new friends there, and adore Huey House. If you asked me and my friend, Tyrell, we would tell you that Huey House is not just some old shelter out on the street, taking up space that you could use to make houses. It is a place where friendships have been formed; a place where we can pour all our worries on someone, and that person would do his or her best to help.
We would have to leave in the future, but we are not ready. Our families aren’t, either. Please, Mayor, please lift the policy. No one wants to see our dear shelter being torn apart, and homeless people wandering the streets everywhere. Now, that would be a bad thing, wouldn’t it? I hope that you will listen to us and lift the new policy.
Regards,
June Yang
