I think the pros of April travelling to Svalbard right away is that she can find out immediately whether it was Bear that was shot and wounded, since they had a deep connection. This would satisfy her curiosity. However, the cons of doing that is if Bear was really shot down, she would be wasting her time and hurting her own feelings.
Instead of traveling to Svalbard right away, she could call Tor and tell him to investigate a bit since he and his father were docking in Svalbard anyway. A trip to Longyearbyen should not be very far. Tor could ask the news reporters what the polar bear looked like, and later call back to April to tell her about it. This way, she could know if Bear was shot without having to take a ship all the way to Svalbard.
