As May’s friend, I would remind her that she is a natural, unlike what Ralph thinks. She has proven her merit time and again. Maybe to take her mind off the pressure, she can take a break so that she can bounce back with more vigour. She should spend time with her parents as they are her strongest supporters. I would also request Mr Wang, her coach, to encourage her for the Nationals. I would stand up to Ralph and tell him not to underestimate May. Also, I will remind May of Principal Peters’ encouraging words. May should not feel demotivated. I will point out to her that there are ample future opportunities to prove herself, even if she loses this one. As a friend, I will encourage May to focus on her own path and not give much thought to any negativity. I will help her find other hobbies of interest as well and keep her engaged. She needs to believe in herself and to not take it as a do or die situation.
