If I were the author

“Come and try your best to kill me!” cackled the witch. Antain shivered. He hated everything about the witch. Her crooked nose, the beady black eyes that took note of his every small step. Most of all, he hated the way she made him lose all his courage to kill her.

Images of his wife and son flashed through his mind, giving him newfound strength to fight the witch. And, just like that, the battle between him and the witch started. Antain was defeated after a long fight. He lay there, praying to god to help him win. A sudden thought flashed through his mind.

“I will not let my son and the innocent babies after him die!”. With that, Antain sprang up and stabbed the witch right in her chest. She screamed in agony. Antain shouted triumphantly. Bloody and bruised, he hobbled back to the village leaders to tell them the good news. They were happy but surprised.

Antain led them to the spot where the witch was killed. She was gone! Although there was no evidence that he had killed the witch, no baby went missing again after that. The village leaders believed Antain had killed the witch. And so, Antain’s son and all the other babies yet to born were spared.

One night, a voice whispered into Antain’s ear, “I will come for you…”.
